Artist's Comments

OK peeps - need some help here...

There are loads and loads of cracking sky shots in other people galleries (such as *angelreich ) - but all my sky shots seem to be really bland :(

How can i adjust this? I've tried adjusting contrast etc, but it just makes the rest of the pic too dark etc.

Help please!

(PS, have access to Photoshop CS and Paint Shop Pro X)

wonderful reflection!

I would say that skies are largely dependent on the weather. one thing you do though, is "burn" the sky and "dodge" the foreground (those tools should be in the toolbox). or alternatively add a new overlay layer, and then make it a gradient (also in the toolbox) with black and the top through to white at the bottom.

k, heres what i do, and my brother does the same thing. im not sure if its considered "cheating" but oh well. take two pictures first of all, exactly the same angle and everything. in one, set the camera so that the sky turns out great, and in the other, set it so that the ground turns out great. then, in photoshop or whatever, combine the two so that you have the great ground of the one pic, and the great sky of the other pic. it takes a little getting used to, but it can help get you the affect that you want. hope this helps u out.

i like the shot by the way. :)

The best on camera thing you can get is a circular polarizing filter. It darkens the blue and brings out the cloud white. I noticed that you had commented to someone that you were experimenting with HDR. That might solve your problem itself.
ps. Very nice composition.

Never argue with an idiot - they'll just drag you down to their level, then beat you with experience....

another amazing one. the composition is spot on and it looks like your caught the water on a perfect day, that reflection is great!

A very mysterious place. Beautiful photo even with 'white' background.
